Massada and the Dead Sea Tours

Israel is a beautiful country with a good road network, making road trips one of the best ways to explore the county. Massada and the Dead Sea are perhaps the most iconic and impressive sites in Israel, making them a major draw for tourists from different parts of the world. Enjoy an eclectic mix of adventure and history, all in one tour. Taking a Massada and Dead Sea tour with Gold Carpet Touring makes the perfect day trip from Tel Aviv, Jerusalem or any other location across the country. You won’t have trouble exploring both sites on the same day, as they are closely located.

Visiting Masada

Massada is a fortress which sits comfortably on top of a rock plateau. Two thousand years ago, a group of Jews, who don’t want to be taken captive by the Romans, fled and found Massada as a perfect place to seek refuge. The Jews stayed here for 7 years until the Romans built a ramp as high as the rock plateau itself. In a bid to avoid being held captive and imprisoned by the Romans, the Jews decided to commit mass suicide, leading to the death of nearly 1000 people.

Today, Massada has been proclaimed a World Heritage Site by UNESCO and one of Israel’s most visited tourist attractions. Getting to the top of Massada is easy, safe, and convenient, thanks to the cable car. Alternatively, you can hike to the top of Massada via the Snake Path.

While access to the top of Masada with the cable car takes just a few minutes, hiking takes no less than 30 minutes. Hiking the Snake path is fun. The best part is that you catch stunning views of the Dead Sea and the whole surroundings on the way up. On getting to the top, you can start exploring the ancient fortress, its building, synagogues, bathhouses, and more. The bath houses and homes give you a clearer picture of how people lived two thousand years ago. The most exhilarant part of taking a cable car or hiking to the top of the fortress is the stunning views of the Dead Sea and the Judean Desert. Get there in time to watch the sunrise. It is breathtaking!

Visiting the Dead Sea

Your next stop is the Dead Sea, which offers excellent therapeutic benefits, including alleviating several skin conditions. If you are looking to take a refreshing dip in the Dead Sea, consider visiting Ein-Bokek beach or Ein Gedi, a natural oasis. Another great alternative is the Mineral Beach, a fantastic place to coat yourself with the mud of the Dead Sea, and then soak in the water. More so, the salty ocean water alleviates various kinds of skin conditions. No matter your skin condition, you’ll see the therapeutic benefits of the Dead Sea minerals and mud to your skin.

One of the most popular things to do is floating in the Dead Sea. You’d be surprised at how easy it is to float in this water. Just take yourself deep down into the water, and within seconds, your feet are back up to the surface. While in the water, do not drink it as it not only has a horrible taste but can be harmful to your health.
